Jasmine

Years of Service 2000-2011

Labrador Retriever. Born August 31, 2000. Jasmine began volunteering  at MSAD 51 in 2001.

She is an AKC certified Canine Good Citizen, and licensed therapy dog with Therapy Dogs International.

While Jasmine worked closely with students in special education classrooms, her work was not a special education service. Rather, the therapy dog(s) is available to support the academic goals and social/emotional needs of all students. Jasmine also volunteered in the health education classroom.

The hand signals for obedience commands are American Sign Language. This enables students with hearing impairments to be able to work with the therapy dog(s) and to experience a sense of belonging.

"Jasmine [therapy dog] has been so helpful to Scott, who suffered from school anxiety brought on by some learning disabilities. It has been so reassuring to know that she [Jasmine] is there on campus."
